Old World Magic: Is Gypsy the Last Frontier?

"One thing I’ve noticed about a lot of Balkan and Gypsy music is that it’s wild and crazy, and of course people love that. They love to lose themselves. But also there’s a sadness to it, even in some of the faster pieces. And it’s really popular with the indie kids and I think that’s because they like that kind of music. They respond to that sort of understanding that life is sad but there are moments of joy."

“With our music, and music that we popularize, we try to reach out and remind people that, when taken out of the hands of a parasite, music is still a great lead into a democratic atmosphere of chaos, where moments

of great freedom and where great friends could be found. And that in the world of rapidly dissolving authentic cultures, soul-searching through the music is something that connects you with the most authentic thing there - your savage heart.”

*There used to be a really groovy playlist here. Then myspace bought imeem with no warning to subscribers. The lists are supposed to be restored. We'll see. If the wait is too long, I'll find another source to stream the NeoVaudeville sound for you to explore.
